My Experience
While working for law firms as an independent contractor or per diem, I managed estates and trusts files, computed estate taxes and trust funds. At tax firms and offices of CPA's, I computed taxes for the general public, often with business or investment tax portfolios. I am currently registered with the IRS as a Professional Tax Preparer. This past tax season, I was site coordinator for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at a senior citizen's center. I am a registered E-File provider, both as an individual practitioner and for VITA. I am also registered in EFPTS as batch filer for small businesses.
While working per diem for at center city and suburban law firms, I created the legal secretary's legal forms manual that is still used now in major law firms. My duties were the usual secretarial duties, such as answering phones, opening and maintaining client files, scheduling appointments and depositions and composing correspondence. I have worked as a legal secretary in the Philadelphia Court System and the Supreme Court. While working as a legal secretary, I was given extra responsibility by attorneys who requested my drafting legal documents. After paralegal school, I formally worked as a paralegal for attorneys in civil law and criminal law practice. I have created tax portfolios and asset distributions for decedent's estates. Legal Research, both at the law library and by computer, was a major portion of my work, Shephardizing cases for attorney's law matters.
